On Wednesday 7/26, we hosted a subscriber-only edition of Lever Live, where we examined the troubling legacy of Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts. Attendees asked questions and shaped the conversation in real time.
The last several years has seen the Supreme Court’s conservative majority exert its power over the American public through controversial case rulings, often out of step with public sentiment. More recently, the court has been embroiled in a series of corruption scandals, all of which has led to a crisis of faith as more and more Americans view the court as a biased political institution.
In this event, David Sirota was joined by Yale professor Samuel Moyn to discuss Roberts' role in this disconcerting history, his flip-flopping on the court’s independence, and his resistance to congressional oversight.
