Even better news: 70 percent of voters support sending monthly $2,000 checks, as House progressives have proposed.
- California Won't Suspend Driver’s Licenses For Unpaid Tickets (CalMatters) — “More than 400,000 Californians had their driver’s licenses reinstated last month after an appeals court ruled that the state was illegally penalizing people who failed to appear in court on costly traffic tickets. The lawsuit was part of a broader, ongoing effort by legal advocacy organizations to roll back California’s traffic fines and court fees, which they contend disproportionately impact low-income residents and communities of color.”
- Biden Pauses New Oil And Gas Leases (Inside Climate News) — While Biden’s executive order pausing oil and gas leasing on federal lands won’t immediately slow down fossil fuel production, it does signal that the new administration is willing to take on the fossil fuel industry.

- Austin Reallocates Money From Police To Provide Housing Services (The Appeal) — Following activist pressure, the Austin City Council voted this week to use $6.5 million from the city’s police department budget to turn a hotel into housing for people experiencing homelessness.
- New York City Divests $4 Billion From Fossil Fuels(Reuters) — Two New York City pension funds divested $4 billion in fossil fuel shares this week, following years of pressure by activists.
- Hunts Point Workers Went on Strike and Won (Jacobin) — Hunts Point produce market workers—who handle the majority of produce that is sold in New York City—went on strike earlier this month, which ended with them winning a raise and blocking an attempt by management to force them to pay more for family health care benefits.
