Rooftop Cool-Off
As cities warm up and the concrete jungle traps in the heat, more cities are turning to a simple fix: light-colored, reflective rooftops designed to bounce sunlight rather than absorb it. The approach has already gained traction in places like Los Angeles, New York City, and Baltimore — and now Atlanta is the latest city to adopt the practice.
Cool roofs, as they are called, don’t just reduce temperatures on top of and inside buildings, but can also cool down the surrounding urban environment, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
