Retired Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy — author of the Citizens United decision — released his new memoir today. Ironically, his book arrives on the same day that The Lever is publicly launching our new book, Master Plan, which exposes the untold story of Kennedy’s role in the plot to legalize corruption — and his tenure as an influence-peddling corporate lobbyist sculpting one of the conservative movement’s most radical initiatives.
In his new memoir, Kennedy insists that while “all of us are concerned about money in politics,” the Constitution doesn’t allow Congress to “silence certain speakers whose voices it deems of some lesser value.” In other words, he’s continuing to amplify the legal fiction — found nowhere in the Constitution — that corporations are entitled to the same free speech rights as human beings.
